Howard G. Charing
I am an author, artist, and workshop facilitator. My work is devoted to supporting people through periods of deep inner change, particularly those times when something is shifting but not yet fully understood.
Over the years, I have come to see that many of the patterns we live with, emotional, relational, and embodied, may have their roots in very early stages of development, before language and identity are fully formed. My work explores how these early influences may continue to shape present experience, not as something to be analysed or fixed, but as something that can be gently brought into awareness.
Rather than working with imposed interpretations or techniques, I take an awareness-based approach. This means creating a space in which people can begin to notice what is already present in the body, in feeling, and in relationship. Understanding is allowed to emerge in its own time. The emphasis is on integration, responsibility, and ethical pacing.
My background includes extensive training and direct experience within Amazonian shamanic traditions, alongside formal study with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies and the Eagle’s Wing Centre for Contemporary Shamanism. I have also run training and developmental courses on behalf of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies in the United States, supporting the delivery of their work within the United Kingdom. In addition, I have spent many years working in collaboration with indigenous healers and lineages in the rainforest, approaching this work with respect, humility, and cultural awareness.
Alongside this, I have explored a range of cross-cultural approaches to transformation, including time spent with spiritual healers in the Philippines. These experiences have informed a broader understanding of consciousness, perception, and the subtle dynamics that shape human experience.
I am the co-author of Plant Spirit Shamanism and Ayahuasca Visions of Pablo Amaringo, and the author of The Amazonian Angel Oracle and The Accidental Shaman. My work as an artist has been exhibited internationally, and I continue to support the legacy of Pablo Amaringo’s visionary art.
In 2016, I organised the first major conference in East Europe ‘Sumiruna Awakenings’ dedicated to visionary consciousness.
This conference featured luminaries such as Graham Hancock, Dennis McKenna, Jan Kounen, plus many other researchers, artists, and facilitators to explore consciousness, visionary culture, and transformation from a range of perspectives.
My work has also been influenced by my training with Jon R. G. Turner, a clinical psychotherapist who developed his work in Los Angeles and later in the Netherlands. His work explored the impact of pre-birth and early imprint experiences on later life. This training provided an important foundation, which continues to evolve through my own practice, teaching, and ongoing inquiry.
Today, I offer workshops and training programmes that bring these strands together into a grounded, experiential approach. This work is open to practitioners from a range of backgrounds, as well as individuals engaged in sincere personal development. It does not require adherence to any particular belief system. Instead, it invites curiosity, reflection, and personal responsibility.
All of my work is offered within a framework of care and responsibility. It is not intended to diagnose or treat medical or psychological conditions, but to support reflective and experiential exploration in a safe, inclusive, and considered way.
